It contains nearly all the main teachings of the Mahayana and can be considered as the summary of all the works by Asanga. The method of treatment of the subjects in this work is the same as the traditional method found in the texts of the Pali Abhidhamma which preceded it by several centuries, such as the Dhammasangani, Vibhanga and Dhatukatha: posing a question and answering it.
