Bodhicitta is not a simple term that allows for a literal translation. Bodhi means enlightenment, and citta means mind or heart. Therefore, bodhicitta is often translated into English as the mind, or heart, of enlightenment. It means an attitude of the mind that tends toward enlightenment with an intention of bringing liberation to all sentient beings.
In the ultimate sense bodhicitta is the direct realization of the nature of reality. On a relative level bodhicitta is an aspiration for achieving buddhahood, and manifestsa s actions imbued with compassion and loving-kindness.
Lama Dudjom Dorjee teaches on Bodhicitta in Action; how to manifest compassion in the relative world. Lama Dorjee bases his teaching on several texts, including Verses in Praise of Bodhicitta and The Thirty-Seven Practices of the Bodhisattva.
