Mahamudra meditation is particularly appropriate for modern students because this meditation does not require taking monastic ordination or doing extensive retreats. "Some people think that blessings are some sort of of strange power - something that makes you shake all over or that makes you levitate to that gives you some extraordinary feeling like being high or drunk. But that's not blessing at all! What blessings are, is at first you even don't know anything - you don't know that the dharma is good - but then you think, 'Maybe the dharma is OK.' You think, 'I should give dharma practice a try. If I meditate, it will probably help me." The dharma has this sort of power: when you know the reasons, you develop some faith and devotion. This is what we mean by blessings.' Thrangu Rinpoche.

This edition contains a newly translated version of the source text. One of the most important concepts in Mahayana Buddhism is the concept of Emptiness. We all experience our world as having internal thoughts and feelings and experiencing the outer world as solid objects. These experiences do in fact appear, but when they are examined closely in four careful analyses of the Middle-way (Madhyamaka) they are found to have no solid, inherent reality. This fact has led the Buddha and many highly realized masters to declare that our reality is like a mirage, a dream, a drop of dew.

Milarepa, Tibet's greatest saint, had two major disciples: Gampopa, who established the monastic foundation of the Kagyu lineage and Rechungpa, who traveled to India and brought back profound teachings which were absorbed into several kagyu lineages.
Rechungpa's biography stands out because of the orthodox unfolding of his realization. Rechungpa's pride and arrogance caused him to go against Milarepa's advice three times, putting his practice at risk. Even with this obstacle, Rechungpa's undying devotion to Milarepa served as the cause for enlightenment as evidenced by Rechungpa's achievement of rainbow body at his death.

The essence of all the teachings taught by the Lord Buddha concern taming one's mind, the point being to return the mind to its natural state of freedom which is endowed with limitless qualities. The realization of this natural state gives rise to spontaneous compassion that is limitless and impartial. This is awakening mind or ultimate bodhichitta.
The Seven Points of Mind Training, compiled in pithy points and slogans, is one of the most well known, profound and traditional practices and texts to develop bodhichitta.
Here, Khabje Khenchen Thrangu Rinpoche, with great compassion, clarity and simplicity illuminates the profound meaning and methods of these teachings so they can become a part of our daily life and practice.

It is particularly adaptable for modern people, since it involves no rituals and can be incorporated into all daily activities. Saraha's Song for the King is a short verse text from classical India that is a basis for the tradition and is widely known in Tibetan Buddhist circles. It is often the basis for teachings given in the West, but there is only one outdated translation of it in print, first published in 1969. Michele Martin has produced a stellar new translation, which is accompanied by a commentary from the well-known teacher Khenchen Thrangu Rinpoche, who is uniquely skilled and concerned with making this method of meditation available to Westerners. While pithy and accessible, the book easily stands up to academic scrutiny, and includes the original Tibetan as well, making it ideal for the popular, scholarly, and Tibetan audiences all at once.

"The basic nature is in itself the state of realization of all buddhas. To fully awaken to this natural state, it is not necessary to go some other place to reach enlightenment. The state of enlightenment is not extrinsic to ourselves. Buddhahood is not something that will appear suddenly in the future, but exists inherently within ourselves right now."

The special function of these biographies is to encourage us by showing how these practitioners dealt with their particular circumstances. They describe the conditions in which they began, how within those limitations they were able to practice and accomplish liberation, and through that how they benefited others.

The Kagyu lineage is commonly known as the practice lineage, as it is practice above all else that is emphasized. However, practice can only proceed correctly if one has a correct understanding of the view. The path and view of the Kagyu lineage is Mahamudra, which is the very essence and pith of all the teachings of Lord Buddha.
Texts on Mahamudra were often written by highly accomplished siddhas who would explain their realization of years and years of Mahamudra meditation in brief spiritual songs called dohas. These dohas, often only a few dozen lines long, are still sung by lamas today. They often contain the most profound instructions in metaphors of great beauty derived from simple meditative experience.

Our Price: $11.00

When the Buddha taught, he said that achieving enlightenment is due entirely to receiving correct teachings and then how diligently one implements these teachings.
One may ask, how does this whole phenomenal world work? The Buddha taught that it all follows the process of interdependent origination in which one action or event causes another event, which causes another event and so on.
In personal terms interdependent origination explains how our happiness and suffering in our present life is the result of actions in our previous lives. This process proceeds through twelve links and each of these links or phrases is explained in detail here.

In the summer of 1957, the revered Buddhist teacher and scholar Khenpo Gangshar foresaw the difficulties that would soon fall upon Tibet and began teaching in a startling new way that enabled all those who heard him to use the coming difficulties as the path of Dharma practice. The teaching consisted of the essential points of Mahamudra and Dzogchen, both view and practice, presented in a way that made them easy for anyone to use, even in the most difficult of circumstances. Khenchen Thrangu Rinpoche was one of the grateful recipients of these teachings, which he regards as among the most important he has ever been given. He transmits them here, for the benefit of all of us who strive to practice in challenging times. They include  contemplations on the ephemeral nature of both joy and suffering, meditations for resting the mind, and guidance for cultivating equanimity in any situation.
