About the author
A Practical Approach to a Meaningful Life
In
The Heart of Compassion
, the Dalai Lama guides us step by step to an understanding of our human condition and how we can act to achieve a higher fulfillment than pure worldly enjoyment. He helps us create within ourselves the necessary texture of consciousness to live a life of harmony, peace and virtue.
This book carefully balances philosophical concepts with a very practical, day-by-day approach to living a spiritual life. Anyone reading this book will come away richer for the experience, regardless of your own spiritual or religious background. Of special note is his clear integration of the teachings of Jesus into his overall worlds view, showing how all teachings can find their harmony in the ultimate spiritual oneness and truth that underlies them all.
The Heart of Compassion, Dalai Lama, Lotus Press, Paperback, $12.95
Tenzin Gyamtso, the 14th Dalai Lama, was born on July 6, 1935 in a small village called Takster in northeastern Tibet. At the age of two, His Holiness was recognized as the reincarnation of the 13th Dalaia Lama. He was enthroned at the age of five and assumed full political power in 1950. In 1959, His Holiness was forced into exile and has striven ever since for a peaceful solution to the the Sino-Tibetan crisis. He continually promotes his compassionate approach to life struggles, whether personal or global, and was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1989.
