Naropa taught Marpa these tantric practices, which are an important part of the Kagyu teachings and a standard practice in the traditional three-year, three-month, three-week retreat.
They consist of:
1. inner heat (gtum mo)
2. illusory body (sgyu lus)
3. dream yoga (rmi lam)
4. clear light (od gsal)
5. intermediate state (bar do)
6. transference of consciousness ('pho ba)
