Born in 1575. He was one of the most accomplished scholars of the unorthodox Jonangpa sect. During the reign of the Fifth Dalai Lama all Jonangpa monasteries were converted into Gelukpa monasteries. As a result only a few works by Taranatha are known, such as Siddhanta and History of Buddhism.
