American Buddhist nun Thubten Chodron has studied and practiced Buddhism in India and Nepal and travels worldwide teaching Buddhism and meditation. She was resident teacher at Amitabha Buddhist Centre in Singapore before assuming her present post with Dharma Friendship Foundation in Seattle.
This is a Buddhist approach to the concerns of daily life. Written in clear and engaging language for people who are new to Buddhism, What Color is Your Mind? will also be interesting to people who have studied and practiced for years.
The first section of the book responds to questions people often ask about Buddhism: What is rebirth? How is Buddhism helpful in working with emotions? How can we practice in daily life? Thubten Chodron enjoys learning and teaching through questions. "It wakes you up!" she says.
The second section, "Working with Anger," offers many practical techniques. Although the Buddha is usually thought of as a religious leader, he was also a consummate psychologist and peacemaker. This presentation is based upon the Buddha's unique prescription for transforming anger and the author's interactions with mental health professionals, people in therapy and conflict mediators.
"Thubten Chodron has presented the Buddhist view on essential issues of spiritual development...a tremendous resource for those interested in Buddhist practice." -Karma Lekshe Tsomo, Author and President of Sakyadhita, International Association of Buddhist Women.
"...a very compassionate book. Her approach is nonsectarian and emphasizes the basic unity found within Buddhism."-Ryo Imamura, Jodo Shin Priest and Professor of Psychology at Evergreen State College.
