By: Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche
Our Price: $75.00

This three-volume set presents the collected works in English of one of the great luminaries of Tibetan Buddhism in our time, published to mark his centennial celebration. A complete exposition of the stages of the Buddhist path is presented through Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoches commentaries on the root texts of classic Tibetan masters including Patrul Rinpoche, Jigme Lingpa, Shechen Gyaltsab, and Mipham Rinpoche. Originally given orally to Western students, the texts afford a rare glimpse into the direct transmissions of a master teacher. Moreover, several of the texts have never been published before. Students interested in the nine vehicles of Tibetan Buddhism will find here a complete array of enlightening instructions to inspire and guide them in a most authentic way.

Volume three expands on the inner core of the Vajrayana teachings of the development and completion stages, and contemplative retreat practice. It begins with a guide to authentic spiritual practice that combines the wisdom of three of the greatest masters of the Tibetan tradition. This is followed by a witty manual of advice for solitary retreat; discussion of the four empowerments and the three samadhis; a commentary on an important dzogchen text, The Three Words That Strike the Vital Point; and quintessential teachings on the ultimate nature of the mind. The volume concludes with a selection from the few poems by Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche that have been translated into English. (800 pages)

The practice of guru yoga, merging with the mind of the master, lies at the very heart of the Vajrayana Buddhist tradition of Tibet. Why is it so important? Because, with the help of the outer teacher, we can discover the inner teacher, the true nature of our own mind. Until that time, if we wish to progress towards enlightenment, we need the guidance of a qualified master, while we seek to rid ourselves of ignorance and free ourselves from the tyranny of ego.

In the teaching presented in this volume His Holiness Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche emphasized the formless aspect of vajrayana practice, focusing on the practice of trekcho, "cutting through" to primordial purity. He based his teaching on the initial verses of The Three Words That Strike the Vital Point, which is the posthumous instruction of Prahevajra, or Garap Dorje, to Manjushrimitra -- two of the early ati lineage holders -- and on Patrul Rinpoche's commentary. In three talks, which were given on June 25-27, 1987, Khyentse Rinpoche described the view, meditation, and action of dzokchen.

Wish-Fulfilling Jewel: Practice of Guru Yoga

"The guru is like a wish-fulfilling jewel granting all the qualities of realization, a father and mother giving their love equally to all sentient beings, a great river of compassion, a mountain rising above worldly concerns unshaken by the winds of emotion, and a great cloud with rain to soothe the torments of the passions. In brief, he is the equal of all the buddhas. To make any connect with him, whether through seeing him, hearing his voice, remembering him, or being touched by his hand, will lead us to liberation. To have full confidence in him is the sure way to progress toward enlightenment. The warmth of his wisdom and compassion will melt the ore of our being and release the gold of the buddha-nature within. "

In the Tibetan tradition, devotion to the spiritual master and complete confidence in him are considered to be indispensible in the attainment of enlightenment.
Based on the teachings of the great 18th century saint and visionary Rigdzin Jigme Lingpa, the instructions of Dilgo Khyentse in this book focus on the devotional practices of Guru Yoga, "merging with the Mind of the Guru". His Holiness Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche (1910-1991) was a highly revered meditation master and scholar of the Nyingma lineage of Tibetan Buddhism.

Zurchungpa's Eighty Chapters of Personal Advice was the final teaching given by the great Nyingma master Zurchung Sherab Trakpa. The original text consists of 580 maxims, covering the entire path of Dzogchen from fundamental teachings through to a series of pith instructions that bring the Dzogchen view to life. Much of the meaning of these often cryptic instructions could be lost to the reader without further explanations, so this book contains a complete, detailed commentary on Zurchungpa's text by Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche. Originally intended as essential instructions for a group of practitioners in three-year retreat, it will undoubtedly serve as an indispensable guide to anyone who seriously wishes to practice the Great Perfection.
