In the Buddha Maitreya's Differentiating the Middle from the Extremes,
the "middle" is the Middle-way and the two extremes are nihilism and
eternalism. The present Buddha, of course, is the Shakyamuni Buddha, and
Maitreya will be the next, future Buddha. Maitreya is known for giving
the world the Five Treatises of Maitreya. These teachings are
particularly precious because they represent the third turning of the
wheel of dharma (with the Four Noble Truths teachings being the first
turning and Nagarjuna's vast teachings on emptiness being the second
turning).

In this teaching, Thrangu Rinpoche emphasizes the importance of cultivating certainty in both the Rangtong (self-empty) and Shentong (other-empty) views as a necessary foundation for practicing the deity practices of the creation stage of secret mantra as well as the completion practices of Mahamudra and Dzogchen. Dolpopa Sherab Gyaltsen's Mountain Doctrine teaches the view (Buddhan-nature).e.

Saraha's Doha for the King, DVD
By: Thrangu Rinpoche
Our Price: $120.00
Members Price: $108.00

The text of instructions on which these talks are based is Saraha's Doha for the King. When Saraha encountered a wishom dakini and began to engage in non-traditional yogic practices, the local King tried to convince Saraha to return to a more traditional monastic approach. In response, Saraha sang this doha. A doha is not a systematic and gradual instruction on practice. Rather, it is a song expressing bliss resulting from personal realization. As a result of hearing this doha, the King gained realization. Saraha's doha is organized in terms of the ground, path and fruition of mahamudra, each of which is summarized and then presented more extensively using various analogies. Thrangu Rinpoche's teaching provides clear, profound and extensive commentary on Saraha's doha.
This teaching was presented at an 8-day-long event in July 2002 to celebrate the consecration of 35 acres of land in Crestone, Colorado that has been given to Thrangu Rinpoche by the Manitou Foundation for the purpose of building a retreat center. Khenpo Karthar Rinpoche was present for the entire event, gave one of the 12 talks, and participated in the in the land consecration ceremony.

Enlightenment is the fruition of Buddhist practice.  While Mahamudra is a powerful and swift practice for achieving ultimate realization, strong emotions can obstruct our progress on this path.  The Seven Points of Mind Training, a relative bodhicitta practice brought to Tibet by Atisha (982-1054 CE) is very effective in working with negative emotions.  In these nine talks The Venerable Khenchen Thrangu Rinpoche gives clear and concise explanations of these Seven Points which are presented in Jamgon Kongtrul Lodro Thaye's classic text  The Great Path of Awakening.  In Rinpoche's view, the combination of Mahamudra and the Seven Points of Mind Training is an excellent balance of both ultimate and relative bodhicitta practices that together offer a swift path to full realization.

Shantarakshita, also known as Khenpo Bodhisattva, was the abbot of Indias Buddhist Nalanda University in the eighth century, where he united the Madhyamika and Yogachara schools of thought. He went to Tibet at the invitation of King Trisong Detsen, founded the temple of Samye and established the first monastic tradition. After a time his teachings were all but lost for many generations. In the nineteenth century Ju Mipham, at the request of his teacher, Jamyang Kyentse Wangpo, wrote the commentary for the Ornament of the Middle Way. Thrangu Rinpoche notes that this teaching proves through logic why all the appearances we see are mind, and why the essence of mind is naturally empty. This teaching helps generate deep certainty that can benefit those who meditate on Mahamudra and Dzogchen and when receiving the oral instructions of pointing out the nature of the mind. Rinpoche received the transmission for this teaching from a student of Mipham Rinpoche himself. Thus this teaching comes to the present day via a short and direct lineage. Translated by David Karma Choephel. Thirteen talks on seven DVDs.
