Description

This extraordinary beautiful teaching was given by Khenpo Karthar Rinpoche during his first historic visit to Hartford KTC in 1998. This teaching on Chenrezig meditation practice is based on the Fifteenth Karmapa's commentary, A Continuous Rain of Blessings: A Commentary on the Meditation and Mantra Recitation for the Great Compassionate One. The commentary begins by explaining the nature and significance of Chenrezig. We learn that Chenrezig represents supreme compassion for all sentient beings and that the practice awakens loving kindness and compassion in practitioners. Chenrezig practice tames negativity and is widespread in the formerly aggressive Tibetan culture. Tibetan children now seem to be born knowing the Chenrezig Mantra, Om Mani Padme Hum. Following the introduction, the practice is presented in six topics, beginning with the preparation of taking refuge and generating bodhicitta. The second and third topics present the visualization and mantra recitation of the main practice. Chenrezig is visualized as the embodiment of the essence of all sources of refuge. The visualization is explained in moving detail, emphasizing the meaning of the practice and the faith, aspiration and confidence of the practitioner. The conclusion of the practice is explained in the fourth and fifth topics which address bringing appearances to the path and dedicating the merit. The sixth and final topic presents the benefits of the practice. This wonderful teaching was translated by Lama Yeshe Gyamtso.

Chenrezig: Bodhisattva of Compassion, Khenpo Karthar Rinpoche, 3 talks, 4 Audio CDs, Vajra Echoes, $24.00
Features
"Mainly English Edition" Because Khenpo Karthar Rinpoche spoke for long periods of time in Tibetan, his monologues have curtailed so that the continuity of the English translation would not be broken. Thus the voice heard for the vast majority of the time is that of the translator, Lama Yeshe Gyamtso.
