Bhante Sathi was born and raised in a devout Buddhist family in Sri Lanka. From a young age, he demonstrated a curiosity for knowledge that extended beyond traditional educational paths.
While still attending high school, Bhante wanted to broaden his understanding by exploring subjects outside the traditional education system.
At the age of twenty, he made the life-changing decision to enter a Buddhist monastery, dedicating himself to monastic training and education. His deep interest lay in sharing the wisdom and insights he gained with others.
After becoming a meditation and mindfulness teacher, Bhante migrated to Southfield, Michigan, where he began conducting meditation classes and leading retreats. In 2003, he moved to Minnesota and founded a meditation community named Triplegem of the North, which has since become a cornerstone for mindfulness and meditation practitioners in the region.
A few years later, Bhante expanded his efforts to make meditation accessible to urban communities by establishing a dedicated meditation space in the city. This effort culminated in the creation of the Mindfulness Center in Chaska. Additionally, he founded the Metta Meditation Center, a residential retreat facility located in Janesville, Minnesota, offering a serene environment for deep spiritual practice and retreat experiences.
From the inception of these centers, Bhante Sathi has served as the primary meditation instructor, guiding countless individuals on their journey toward mindfulness and self-discovery. His dedication to fostering a supportive and inclusive meditation community continues to inspire those who seek personal growth and inner peace.
