Description

The book argues that because of the failure of modern higher education in India there is need for a change in the system. A plea for redeeming our noetic sensitivity which is the fundamental concept in the plan for re-education. The term indicates mans innate responsivity to the roots of reality from the core of his being.

The school aims at restoration of mans originary noetic innocence and that wholeness of being by which innocence is protected and sustained. The a-doctrinal nature of the programme is governed by this fundamental, immanent purpose. A genuine doctrine is centred in truth and invariably aims at liberation of the taught: ultimately, from the doctrine itself. (This is the real import of sa vidya ya vimuktaye.)

The main idea is to combine the method of peer group learning with some conventional, others not so conventional, methods of teaching to have minimum teaching and maximum dialogical and multilateral interaction, sometimes diffuse, at others focused and carefully directed.

Illuminations: A School for the Regeneration of Man's Experience, Imagination, and Intellectual Integrity, by A. K. Saran, Central Institute of Higher Tibetan Studies, Hardcover, 131 pages, $12.50
