These rituals belong to the Essential Practices of the Dharma of the Nyingmapa (The Order of the Elders), founded by the Indian mystic Padmasambhava who, in the eighth century, was invited by King Trisongdetsen to spread the Buddhist religion in Tibet. Tibetan Buddhism uses the mudra (symbolic gesture of the hands and fingers), the mantra (sacred text used as a prayer or incantation) and the mandala (symbolic diagram of the universe, used as an instrument of meditation). These pieces, performed according to esoteric Tantric rituals, use an amazing vocal and instrumental technique. They are considered as offerings and as a support for meditation – a meditation that harmonises body and soul and enables a new awareness of the Self. Anyone may experiment with the virtues of sound and the feelings it arouses.
