The main objective of the study is to understand the history of spread of Buddhism from India to Central Asia, the significance of Silk Road in this process and the influence of Buddhism in the socio-cultural aspect of Central Asian societies. Given the current efforts Chinese efforts of revival of the ancient Silk Road as Belt Road Initiative, this study with a historical perspective has contemporary relevance and will be a beneficial addition to the existing body of literature on Silk Road studies.
