Description

This book arose from the fourteen years of travel conducted by Melina Mulas, predominantly during the 1990s, in Asia and Europe tracking down masters of the spiritual tradition of Tibet. Despite not wishing to commend any religious stance, the Milanese photographer felt it necessary to document a civilization that is gradually disappearing and which still has much to offer the Modern West.
Her meetings with the Tibetan spiritual masters led to this series of portraits, in which the most important aspect is the gaze; the gaze of the photographer, of the lamas themselves, and our own, which is irresistibly drawn to the faces of the sitters. These portraits are an invitation to learn to look, so that we may develop better understanding between cultures.

With pictures of 66 Lamas, H.H. Dalai Lama, H.H. Karmapa, Tai Situ Rinpoche, Jamgon Kongtrul Rinpoche, Bokar Rinpoche, Thrangu Rinpoche, Kalu Rinpoche and many others.

Lamas of Tibet, Melina Mulas, Continent, Hardcover, 10x10 inch, 2005, 183 Pages, $50.00
