The story of the little shepherd of the Himalayas is very ancient and is part of the cultural heritage of the Himalayan valleys. In the winter, grandmothers used to tell this very tale to their families as they sat around the fireplace.

It was collected by Tsering Yangdzom, a teacher of Tibetan literature at Lhasa University, during her research on local myths and stories.

this tale has been translated and published in different languages with the aim to prevent children of the Himalayan areas from losing touch with their original traditions, while a the same time helping them to learn a little English. For the children of Western countries this book should act as a means to understand and give an insight into another culture.

It is a tale "narrated by the clouds" which sweep across the dark blue skies above the Himalayan mountain range.

Tsering Yangzom Lama is a Tibetan writer based in Vancouver, British Columbia, whose debut novel We Measure the Earth with Our Bodies was published in 2022. She was born and raised in a Tibetan refugee community in Nepal before immigrating to Canada and then the United States.

Maria Antonio Sironi Diemberger is a geologist, writer and translator. For fifteen years, she has been involved in research in Tibet and Nepal with her daughter Hildegard Diemberger, an anthropologist and researcher at the University of Vienna. She founded the voluntary association "Eco Himal" which, alongside local communities, carries out humanitarian and cultural missions. Kurt Diemberger is a world-renowned Austrian mountaineer who has climbed almost all the major mountain ranges in the world.
