A commemorative programme of the highlights of H.H. The Dalai Lama's UK visit May/June 2004, including his visits to Liverpool, London & Glasgow. His Holiness, receives an honorary degree from John Moores University in Liverpool Cathedral, and meets the Mayor of Liverpool. His Holiness also meets members of the public in a spontaneous walkabout. Excerpts are included from His Holiness' meetings with Foreign Secretary Jack Straw, Leader of the Opposition Michael Howard, and the meeting with the All Party Parliamentary Group for Tibet. His Holiness gives the Temenos-Singhvi annual lecture and meets international journalists at the Foreign Press Association. In Glasgow, His Holiness gave a public talk to over 10,000 people at the SECC, followed by three days of teachings. The programme captures the spirit and essence of this first part of His Holiness' visit to the UK.  The programme is presented in English.

Tenzin Gyamtso, the 14th Dalai Lama, was born on July 6, 1935 in a small village called Takster in northeastern Tibet. At the age of two, His Holiness was recognized as the reincarnation of the 13th Dalaia Lama. He was enthroned at the age of five and assumed full political power in 1950. In 1959, His Holiness was forced into exile and has striven ever since for a peaceful solution to the the Sino-Tibetan crisis. He continually promotes his compassionate approach to life struggles, whether personal or global, and was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1989.
