The Six Yogas of Naropa are celebrated as a system that can lead to full enlightenment within one lifetime, and countless Indian and Tibetan masters have accomplished enlightenment through these practices. Most of the historical commentaries are quite skeletal, and often were regarded as outlines for Lamas who give these teachings, rather than as commentaries for practitioners engaging in this training. This book is different. While still following the original and authentic teachings of this practice lineage, it gives more detailed explanations and guidance than earlier commentaries on the subject, which previously could only be received through oral instructions. Alongside an in-depth commentary on the Six Yogas of Naropa, it covers the preliminary practices, and features extensive practice manuals.
Six Yogas of Naropa: A Practical Commentary on the Yogas of Inner Fire, Illusory Body, Dream, Clear Light, Intermediate State, and Consciousness Transference, Jonas Over, Vajra Mandala Publications, 305 pages, $64.99
Jonas Over was born in Germany and read Milarepa's life story at the age of ten. Jonas was fascinated by Milarepa's quest to achieve enlightenment, as well as his main practices of Chakrasamvara and Tummo. Since then, Jonas has practiced in various lineages of Tibetan Vajrayana Buddhism and has also explored and learned other methods and traditions, such as Shamanism and various Breath and Bodywork systems. He has completed several teacher trainings in the fields of Breathwork, Yoga, and Qi Gong.
Jonas lives in Ireland with his wife Gosia Over, a psychotherapist. Both Jonas and Gosia have authorization from Lama Glenn Mullin and Lama Jhampa Shaneman to transmit and teach Vajrayana practices such as the Six Yogas of Naropa. Together they run Vajra Mandala, a Vajrayana Buddhist Sangha, whose activities and programs are mainly focused on international online teachings via Zoom and various online teaching platforms, as well as in-person retreats in Europe and America.
