Too often compassionate feeling is left inactive. Compassion NOW! is a work not only focused on how love and compassion are the root of all Buddhist practices, but is a call to put these compassionate feelings into action in the world. From a teaching given in India in 2010, His Holiness the Seventeenth Karmapa sets forth that compassion for oneself is the starting point from which we can expand to other beings with whom we have a close connection and then further to an immeasurable compassion for all beings through the Mahayana practice of mind training, which he discusses with clarity and insight. An overview of the Vajrayana method of meditation on Chenrezik, the bodhisattva of compassion, also is included, where His Holiness guides our attention to the central role of the practice: cultivating compassion.

With more than a million followers worldwide and at least 50,000 in the United States, the 17th Karmapa is one of Tibetan Buddhism's most senior lamas. His dramatic escape from Tibet and his spiritual presence have made him an instant celebrity, and Elle magazine recently named him one of its “25 people to watch.”
The Future is Now, which pairs contemporary photography with 108 sayings on how to live more compassionately and consciously, is the Karmapa's first mainstream work. In it, he offers advice on such universal and personal themes as social values, the environment, freedom, responsibility, loneliness, and contentment. Fresh, bold, timely photos and straightforward text make the ancient teachings of Buddhism accessible to everyone.

When the year 2003 gave in to the 2004, we visited the faraway India, where Shakyamuni Buddha attained Enlightenment at Bodh Gaya, and had been fortunate to have blessings to record the auspicious prayer-chants of grand Annual Puja presided by His Holiness Karmapa, where thousands of monks and nuns, who gathered there from all the corners of the world and sang together the "Zangchod Monlam" (the aspirational prayers of Arya Bhadracharya ). As an answer to our request, His Holiness also especially kindly recorded a short advice on depression. We sincerely hope that listening to the voice from the holy place will bring mental peace to the countless sentient beings.

Like the light of the sun, moon, and stars, may love,
compassion, and wisdom shine forth. May they strike every single living being
and dispel the darkness of ignorance, attachment, and hatred that has lurked
for ages in their being. When any living being meets with another, may it be
like the reunion of a mother and child who have long been separated. In a
harmonious world such as this, may I see everyone sleep peacefully to the music
of nonviolence. This is my dream.

-Many people have heard of the Dalai Lama, but fewer are aware of the unique role of the Gyalwa Karmapa, Tibet's very first 'reincarnate' lama. in June 1985, among the nomads of Eastern Tibet, the Karmapa took birth again for the 17tn time in this millennium, fulfilling the hopes and prayers of millions of Buddhists of the Kagyu tradition worldwide.- Like so many of his fellow lamas, the previous Karmapa, the 16th, left Tibet at the time of the Chinese invasion in the l950s, bringing with him a treasury of Buddhist teachings which had been preserved for more than 800 years in the isolated beauty of 'the land of the snows'. Since that time these teachings have taken root in many countries around the world. After the 16th Karmapa's death in 1981 his followers had to wait until 1992 to discover his reincarnation. He was found exactly in accordance with instructions left in a letter he himself had concealed in an amulet given to one of his chief disciples, the 12th Tai Situpa. The Dalai Lama subsequently gave his offical approval and the 17th Karmapa was enthroned in his tradidonal seat at Tsurphu, not far from Lhasa, in Tibet. Drawing on a quarter-century of experience close to the senior lamas of the Kagyu tradidon, including the 16th Karmapa, Ken Holmes presents extremely useful and not always widely available information on topics such as the Karmapa's uniqueness, his lineage, reincarnation, the land of Tibet and Tibetan Buddhism itself-particularly that branch of it that the Karmapa embodies so perfectly. He has created this book as 'simple advice from a friend' in the hope that it will help those who meet the Karmapa to gain more benefit from their experience and others to discover someone who will doubtless be an important figure in the coming century.f the Gyalwa Karmapa, Tibet's very first 'reincarnate' lama.

The word “karma” means “activity, so “Karmapa” means “the one who performs activities.” Noble Karmapa is the one who fulfills Buddhas’ activities. In other words, he’s the manifestation of activities of Buddhas’ from ten directions in all three times. “Khyenno” is saying “please understand my heart,” thus, “Karmapa Khyenno” could be interpreted as “Karmapa, you know my heart, you understand my grief and sorrow, please grand your mercy to me, hold me in your compassion. Please, protect me and help me, please do not forgot me nor abandon me.”

In this succinct teaching presented in 2006 by His Holiness the Seventeenth Gyalwang Karmapa in Bodhgaya, India, students are guided through a shortened version of the preliminaries for mahamudra practice, which His Holiness composed with the aim of benefiting practitioners from developed countries who often lead busy lives. The complete practice, in "Brief Recitations," is written in English, Tibetan, and Tibetan transliteration, and complete instructions for the Four Special Preliminaries are provided, with the exception of guru yoga. His Holiness guides students through the details of each practice, including the visualizations of Refuge, Vajrasattva purification, and Mandala offerings -- often punctuated with his good humor. A summary of the practice sequences and a list of precepts of the refuge vow are also included in two appendices.

No solo

In 2011, the 17th Karmapa personally wrote a new set of Karmapa Khyenno lyrics in Tibetan, completed at the request of the HH Gyalwang Karmapa Remembrance Association. On Spacious Expanse of Dharmadatu: Karmapa, the reincarnated Master Karmapa clearly points the way to the road to enlightenment that was traveled by the Buddha, the Lotus-Born, and Tara. Through the devoted singing and chanting of the singers and the beautifully light and restrained playing on this album, listeners can hear the sounds of inner enlightenment.

Motivated by the purest of compassion, the Gyalwang Karmapas have taken rebirth continuously since the eleventh century. The present seventeenth incarnation, Ogyen Trinley Dorje, was born in Eastern Tibet in 1985. Seven years later, he was recognized by a letter of prediction and brought to Tsurphu Monastery, the seat
of the Karmapas in Tibet. Here, he received a traditional
education in practice and philosophy, and at the turn of the millennium, he journeyed over the Himalayas to India where he presently resides. Known for his clear and direct teaching style, the youthful Karmapa radiates the brilliance of his heritage. Traveling the Path of Compassion, his commentary on The Thirty-Seven Practices of a Bodhisattva connects this revered text with our daily lives and our deepest aspirations.
