Bodhisattva portrays the Seventeenth Gyalwa Karmapa, one of the most important lamas in the world of Tibetan Buddhism, at a unique moment in his trajectory as a teacher: his first visit to the United States (and the West). In this hour-long documentary, this young man of extraordinary warmth, humanity, humor, and charisma speaks to packed auditoriums and delights in encountering this new world. As a sequel to Mark Elliott's earlier The Lions Roar (1987), a documentary about the previous Karmapa's first trip to the West, Bodhisattva continues to chronicle the life of this significant spiritual figure and his role in the transmission of Buddhism to the West.

Prev-HHK

Bodhisattva captures not only the Karmapa's disarming honesty and genuine faith in his role as a bodhisattva, or one born to benefit others, but also reveals much about the fascinating question of transmission of religion, or belief system, from one culture to the next. The Karmapa gives profound teachings on the importance of thinking in new ways in order to address the social and environmental problems facing humanity, emphasizing how we are all deeply interconnected. Our recognition of this interconnection through the Karmapa's teachings in this film gives hope for regeneration.

Bodhisattva interweaves footage shot on tour, with superb background footage of the Karmapa's childhood in Tibet, sequences in Dharamsala, India, and film of the previous Sixteenth Karmapa.

The Karmapa offers a path in a community that is based on compassion. He shares his vision for bringing social action into daily life, on a scale we can manage through the choices we make every day: what to buy, what to eat, and how to relate honestly with friends, family and coworkers. He shows that we can live with kindness in challenges we face as conscious beings.ctions we share with others - in our families, communities, social systems, and on our planet. Thanks to the depth of his spiritual training, and the breadth of his curiosity about the world and his love for it, he presents a relevant framework for understanding what it means to be human now - and why it's imperative that we concern ourselves with the well-being of all others. He points to a world we can create through our own effort, using a resource we already have in abundance - the basic nobility of our human heart.

The seventeenth Karmapa, Ogyen Trinley Dorje, is the leader of the Karma Kagyu School, one of the four main schools of Tibetan Buddhism. Born in 1985 in eastern Tibet to nomadic parents, he was recognized as the reincarnation of the sixteenth Karmapa who passed away in the US in 1981. He became the first Tibetan reincarnation to be recognized by both the Dalai Lama and the Chinese Government. The 15-year-old monk made headlines when he escaped to India in 2000. Currently living near Dharamshala (in Himachal Pradesh, India), the Karmapa is widely seen as an important spiritual leader of the twenty-first century. Over the past decade and a half, he has grown up into a formidable leader and an impressive orator.
Behind the faade of scandals and controversies surrounding the Karmapa is an extraordinary young man, full of charisma and intelligence. Yet few know who the Karmapa is and what he believes in. What are his teachings and what is his vision for the world? How is he restoring his 900-year-old Tibetan Buddhist institution of which he is the head?
In a unique mixture of biography, travelogue and reportage, the author brings alive the life of the Karmapa, who is grappling with immense challenges to modernize spirituality, while keeping its essence alive.
Here is a timely volume that is highly relevant today given the worldwide attention on the developments in Tibet and its impact on Beijing.

Karmapa: Urgyen Thrinley Dorje

Our Price: $25.00

-Many people have heard of the Dalai Lama, but fewer are aware of the unique role of the Gyalwa Karmapa, Tibet's very first 'reincarnate' lama. in June 1985, among the nomads of Eastern Tibet, the Karmapa took birth again for the 17tn time in this millennium, fulfilling the hopes and prayers of millions of Buddhists of the Kagyu tradition worldwide.-
Like so many of his fellow lamas, the previous Karmapa, the 16th, left Tibet at the time of the Chinese invasion in the l950s, bringing with him a treasury of Buddhist teachings which had been preserved for more than 800 years in the isolated beauty of 'the land of the snows'. Since that time these teachings have taken root in many countries around the world.
After the 16th Karmapa's death in 1981 his followers had to wait until 1992 to discover his reincarnation. He was found exactly in accordance with instructions left in a letter he himself had concealed in an amulet given to one of his chief disciples, the 12th Tai Situpa. The Dalai Lama subsequently gave his offical approval and the 17th Karmapa was enthroned in his tradidonal seat at Tsurphu, not far from Lhasa, in Tibet.
Drawing on a quarter-century of experience close to the senior lamas of the Kagyu tradidon, including the 16th Karmapa, Ken Holmes presents extremely useful and not always widely available information on topics such as the Karmapa's uniqueness, his lineage, reincarnation, the land of Tibet and Tibetan Buddhism itself-particularly that branch of it that the Karmapa embodies so perfectly. He has created this book as 'simple advice from a friend' in the hope that it will help those who meet the Karmapa to gain more benefit from their experience and others to discover someone who will doubtless be an important figure in the coming century.f the Gyalwa Karmapa, Tibet's very first 'reincarnate' lama.

Ojos que Jamas se Cierran: El Cultivo de la Compasion
By: El Karmapa Ogyen Trinley Dorje
Our Price: $10.00
Members Price: $9.00
